Resort guest priority

Sea Pines courses give booking priority to resort guests and property owners. Outside visitors can book, but availability and pricing differ. Confirm access requirements before planning.

Resort / Public

Palmetto Dunes, Port Royal, and Shipyard are open to outside visitors. Resort guests may receive preferred tee times or rates. Confirm current policies with each course.

Semi-private / Public

Oyster Reef, Dolphin Head, and Bear Creek (Hilton Head Plantation) welcome public play. Tee time availability and pricing are managed directly by each club.

Members & guests only

Private community courses (Indigo Run, Palmetto Hall, Long Cove, Spanish Wells, Wexford) are generally reserved for members and sponsored guests. Some clubs accommodate non-members in limited circumstances — confirm directly before assuming access is unavailable.

Bluffton / Lowcountry

Hilton Head National, Old South Golf Links, and Crescent Pointe are public-access courses on the mainland, a short drive from the island. All three are worth considering for groups seeking variety.

Shipyard format

Shipyard's three layouts are 9-hole courses. An 18-hole round combines any two nines. Confirm which combinations are available and how they are priced when booking.

Plan nearby rounds

Where each community sits on the island.

Hilton Head Island's golf communities are spread across roughly 12 miles of island, from Sea Pines at the south end to Hilton Head Plantation and Indigo Run at the north. Grouping consecutive rounds by location reduces driving time and keeps the trip rhythm easy.

  • Sea PinesSouth end of the island

Harbour Town, Atlantic Dunes, Heron Point. Marina, resort dining, and the lighthouse finish.

  • Palmetto DunesMid-island

Three courses in one community. Easy to build a multi-round stay without leaving the resort.

  • ShipyardMid-island, near Coligny Beach

Three nine-hole courses. Central location makes it easy to pair golf with beach time.

  • Port RoyalNorth end of the island

Barony and Robber's Row. Quieter north-island setting, often better availability.

  • Hilton Head PlantationNorth end of the island

Oyster Reef and Dolphin Head are semi-private and open to public play. Bear Creek is also accessible.

  • Bluffton / LowcountryMainland, short drive from the island

Hilton Head National, Old South Golf Links, and Crescent Pointe — all public-access and worth adding to a trip.

Sea Pines and Palmetto Dunes are roughly 5 miles apart. Port Royal and Hilton Head Plantation sit at the north end, about 10 miles from Sea Pines. Shipyard is centrally located between the two. Groups doing rounds across multiple communities should factor in drive time when scheduling early tee times.

Course character is a planning guide, not a promise of conditions or availability. Confirm current course details, tee times, and guest access directly with each facility. Private community courses are listed for reference — access policies vary and should be confirmed directly with each club.
